Job Description
As a Petroleum Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe extraction of hydrocarbon deposits, such as oil and natural gas. You will assist with the location of natural petroleum reservoirs and to devise the best methods of extraction, development and production of oil and gas.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain on-site drilling and pumping equipment.
* Evaluate and recommend flow rate enhancement.
* Analyse, interpret and monitor the geological formation data.
* Provide direction to Junior Technologists within the Department.
* Determine the extraction risks and the best methods of extraction.
* Ascertain extraction risks, such as an area’s potential for earthquakes.
* Determine the most efficient way to fracture shale beds to free the gas or oil.
* Ensure extraction and transportation respect safety and environmental regulations.
* Evaluate and makes recommendations on purchasing petroleum application software.
* Manage and control wells with branches at the bottom (horizontal and multilateral wells).
* Manage contractor relationships inline with health, safety and environmental performance.
* Prepare written material including cabinet papers, briefing notes, reports and presentations.
* Determine the most efficient way to drill through internal divisions for a free-flowing single well.
* Participate with other officials of the department in the assessment of hydrocarbon resources and reserves.
* Partake in development of production and drilling forecasts, development strategies and policy recommendations.
* Design methods of extracting oil and gas safely and efficiently using specialist computer applications and mathematical models.
* Use surveys, testing, and analysis to evaluate new reservoirs to determine profits and to create low-cost drilling and extraction plans.
* Use well and reservoir remote sensing technology and surveillance data to manage the value of the reservoir and decide on appropriate engineering interventions.

* Bachelor’s degree in petroleum, civil, mechanical, chemical or related field.
* At least 4-5 years of work experience as a Petroleum Engineer; or experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
* Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for work experience on a year for year basis.

* Knowledge of computer to perform mathematical and other types of specialised analyses.
