Transmission System Operator

GlobeKonect Petrochemical & Energy is a prominent and diversified energy company that deals in oil, gas, chemical and renewable energy. We are in search of a certified,  experienced and professional Transmission System Operator to join our dynamic and dedicated team in Lagos, Nigeria.

    Job Description  

As a Transmission System Operator, you will be responsible for the reliable and safe operation of the transmission system under both normal and emergency conditions. You will have the authority to take and direct real-time actions over all personnel that affect the reliability of the bulk electric transmission system.

   Duties and Responsibilities

* Maintain the security of confidential information.

* Ensure appropriate communications on all transmission events.

* Maintain knowledge of GPE’s operating practices and procedures.

* Utilize one-line diagrams as a tool in writing and checking switching orders.

* Coordinate complex switching activities with other utilities to ensure safety and reliability are upheld.

* Monitor voltage and reactive power flows and utilize reactive resources to maintain voltage schedules.

* Analyze system voltage and performs daily/night and weekend load flow approvals for unplanned outages.

* Maintain working knowledge of all System Operations procedures, manuals, handbooks, plans and technology systems.

* Prepare switching orders that will isolate work areas and provide a safe zone of protection for both field personnel and equipment.

* Utilize the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for switching and control of the electric transmission system.

* Perform any task or special project that provides information that is critical for department and control center operation as requested by GPE management.

* Respond to disturbances, emergency events and other changes in weather or system conditions and make the appropriate internal and external notifications.

* Call on generation support as needed and operate the Transmission system in a manner that will not exceed thermal and voltage limits or cause System Operating Limit (SOL).

* Diagnose outage and fault locations utilizing available information, direct GPE personnel in outage situations, and maintain an accurate and detailed sequence of events for outage reports.

* Supervise transformer Load Tap Changer (LTC) control for maintenance of vars and voltage, and remote operation of circuit breakers, auto reclosers and peripheral equipment appropriately.

   Minimum Job Requirements

* High School Diploma.

* Driver’s license, Category B.

* NERC Transmission System Operator or Reliability Coordinator Certification.

* At least 3 years of work experience as a Transmission System Operator; or experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

* Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for work experience on a year for year basis.

   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

* Analytical abilities.

* Knowledge of electrical systems.

* Organisational and problem solving skills.

* Great technical skills and physical stamina.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

* Good knowledge of MS Excel and Microsoft office.

* Knowledge of technical presentations and reporting.

* Proven experience as a Transmission System Operator or similar role.

* Skill in organising resources, establishing priorities, and working efficiently.

* Ability to work effectively in an ethnically diverse and international environment.

* Ability to communicate fluently in English language and read technical drawings.

* Knowledge of EMS/ Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications .

* Experience working on EMS based infrastructure and comfortable building and executing training scenarios.

* Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data, configuration, or processing information.
